Dry Skin Must-Haves

IMG-1850Oh Hey!

For my first ever (!) blog post, I wanted to chat about a few products that are EV.ERY.THING for my dry skin right now. I am on a topical prescription medication for my breakouts, so my skin thirst is REAL

[EDIT]: My skin is typically pretty normal and prone to breakouts. Let me know if I should make a future post about my new skincare regimen?? [Spoiler Alert: It’s easy]

Without further ado, here are some of my dry skin heroes at the moment:

1. Jergens Natural Glow Wet Skin Moisturizer:

Full disclosure, I am horrible at moisturizing my skin. I have never been great at wearing lotion, body butter, etc. I tend to start using these products when my skin has taken a desert-like turn in the winter months (even then I am never consistent in using it). When I found this product, I was interested in the fact you can apply it when your skin is still wet (hello, Mrs. Impatient!) and it claims to provide a subtle, healthy glow. I’ve been using it for about a month now and I feel like it has really made my skin soft, hydrated,  and I do have a VERY natural, radiant and supple “tan”. This product is a hero for me because it is so easy to slather on after a shower and saves me the step (and stink) of self-tanners. I typically use it at night because your skin does feel slightly tacky after application. There is a smell to it, but not as bad as other self-tanners tend to be. Transfer on clothes/towels is pretty minimal, just wash or dampen your hands after application to avoid product build-up (it happens to the best of us). It is available in 2 shades: light to medium skin and medium to tan skin. Overall, I am loving this stuff and recommend if you need a little hydration to your routine.

2. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hand Gel Cream:

Is it a gel? Is it a cream? I can’t really decide, but this product is soooooo good. My hands tend to bother me the most when they get dry, so I need something that works and is sticks around for my hand-dryness 9-1-1’s. This product is so light and the consistency really feels like a super-charged water-gel infusion, while still being creamy. It also has a super-light, refreshing scent that isn’t overbearing or migraine-inducing. I am really loving this stuff so far and I want to check out more products in this new HydroBoost line—so far, SO good!

3. Bobby Brown Face Base Priming Moisturizer:

This product is just so freakin’ good. It is super moisturizing and feels great when applying it to your skin. For me, this product is the ultimate multi-tasker; it hydrates the skin, is full of skin-loving nutrients like vitamin E, C, and A, and works wonders as a makeup primer. It really does it all. I feel like it truly improves the appearance of my skin and acne scars when used over time (not sure this is a claim but I’ve definitely seen these results). If  I am having a day where my pores are more noticeable, I will add a small amount of primer that has more pore-blurring effects to my T-zone.  It is a splurge for sure, but a little does go along way and if you can moisturize and prime in 1-step –I’m in! [Side note: Sephora has this available in mini-size now if you want to give it a whirl before paying full-price]. I love the way it smells too, its just a light citrus-y scent that smells natural and isn’t overly fragranced. This product is an A+ for sure and I highly recommend checking it out.

4. NARS Sheer Glow Foundation:

If I had to pick one foundation to wear forever– this is IT. It is an absolute dream for skin more on the dry or normal side. The coverage is a strong medium for me and works great when applied with a brush (gives more coverage) or sponge (gives more of a glowy, radiant finish). It just gives such a gorgeous, natural look to the skin and never cakes up or looks overly “makeup-y”. I can always rely on this one to last throughout the day and still look fresh hours later. I also have found that when I get the most compliments on my makeup/skin, I am always wearing this gem. It is my go-to when I want something that looks beautiful, feels great, blends seamlessly, and is truly hassle-free**.  Thank you NARS!!!

**Speaking of Hassle free, another foundation that gives even more of dewy glow is the Josie Maran Vibrancy Argan Oil Foundation Fluid. I love this foundation for night time, because it is a little more high-maintenance in terms of my need to touch-up/powder. Due to the oils in the formulation, it probably won’t be ideal for all-day wear and tends to breakup a little faster than normal foundations. Even though more maintenance is required, the look of hydration and youth it gives to my skin is hard for me to find in any other foundation. This is a great one to have on hand if you are especially dry-skinned and need some glow in your life.

***Another Honorable Mention: The new BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Hydrating Foundation StickI have only worn this one a few times and I’m still experimenting with it, but so far I am really, really liking it. It’s like applying a wonderfully refreshing cream/gel on your skin and looks so pretty! So far, I think I like applying it with a brush best. Stay tuned……

5. Wet n Wild Megacushion Foundation:

I am late to the game on this one, but WOW. This foundation is a dry-skinned lovers dream come true. It makes my skin so plumped, hydrated, and skin-like. I’m obsessed. I am not sure how it’s possible that this foundation is less than 6 bucks and has out-performed many of my foundations costing $40 and up. It can build up to a medium coverage for me and looks sooo nice throughout the day. I love how it doesn’t emphasize the lines/wrinkles on my skin and fades away very subtly throughout the day, leaving you with a believably healthy glow. It also comes in a cute little cushion compact that would be ideal for travel and isn’t a bulky addition to your makeup collection. Wet n Wild is the real MVP on this.

 6. Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder:

Frequently I have found that most foundations and tinted moisturizers I use need a little setting powder to increase staying-power and avoid the nightmare that is blush/bronzer streakiness. The LM Candleglow is perfect for dry-skinned gals/guys because it gives the benefits of setting powder while actually enhancing the radiancy of your complexion. Candleglow is the perfect name for this because it creates such a believable luminosity to your skin that helps blur pores with a soft-focused effect. It doesn’t provide much in the coverage department and I wouldn’t use under your eyes, but it will definitely help bring the life back to the skin and works wonders if your skin is looking dull or tired. I love, love, love this one!

7. Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream-Sunday Riley

This cream. I promise it is like giving your skin a drink of cool, refreshing water. It feels so light and hydrating to the touch AND claims to help with dark spots and discoloration. I can’t think of a more necessary combo for my skin right now. I haven’t been using it very long so I can’t speak for the discoloration improvement yet, but this stuff instantly gives your skin a plump, hydrated look. It has hyaluronic acid to help seal in a moisturized feeling and leaves you with an unbelievable fresh feeling for hours. For daytime use, I would recommend applying the cream and letting it set up for 10-20 minutes before applying makeup or foundation–I have found it layers best with other products this way. I am so impressed with this magical cream and I know my skin is LOVING the quench of hydration it gives.
