Two Skincare Products Doing It All

Two Skincare Products Doing It All

Hey Friends!

I just have a short and sweet post today about some important developments in my skincare routine!

All products mentioned are linked below!

I just wanted to come on and chat a little bit about my new(ish) additions to my skincare routine. I’ve been pretty diligent with taking care of my skin each day, and making sure that, at the very least, I’ve removed my makeup before going to sleep. Since becoming more and more consistent with my skincare, I’ve come to enjoy taking off my makeup and giving my skin some much needed care and attention.

The specific step that I believe has made the most dramatic improvement in my skin is using a toner, both in the morning and evening. Prior to incorporating toner, I felt as if my skin was unbalanced and not getting the full potential benefits of my prescription treatment and moisturizer. A few months ago, I really decided I would be consistent with using my Thayer’s Witch Hazel as a toner product after cleansing.

**Note: I use this by soaking a cotton pad and sweeping it over my face 1-2 times. I also sometimes use this more like an essence, by pouring some in my hands and gently pressing the liquid in to absorb.

I can’t really describe how dramatically this has helped my complexion. My skin is noticeably smoother and less prone to irritation. I also feel like it has helped with texture, as well as keeping my lines/wrinkles somewhat at bay while I’m in between Botox treatments (I have an appointment Monday ;-)!!!)

I can remember taking about a 2-3 week break from the toner after running out and not repurchasing. I really didn’t think too much about skipping it until I saw my skin begin to take a turn back to look more dull and my pores more visible. I also felt like my skin defaulted back to an overly-dry “mode”, and I was seeing dry patches pop up. Since then, I have kept this stuff stocked in my collection and I’ll never go back!

I was so blown away by the benefits I was seeing from using a toner, I  decided to take the routine to the next-level by incorporating Caudalie’s Grape Water Spray— which also has toner-like qualities to hydrate and soothe. The “grape” ingredients in this mist are extracted from grapes in the Bordeaux, France wine region.

The grapes multi-task in providing extra hydration, as well as reducing skin sensitivity (it is recommended for the most sensitive skin types/conditions, such as eczema.) If I am feeling irritated from cleansing or doing a new face mask, I will always pull out this guy to immediately soothe and calm my skin. This spray just feels SO gentle and refreshing! I think that it works hand-in-hand with the Thayer’s to re-balance my skin to take in the benefits of moisturizer/serums. Because I have seen the marked benefits from using it, I only use the Caudalie for skincare–I do not use this as a makeup setting spray. I’ve just seen such a marked improvement by using these two very effective (and very gentle!) products in tandem.

Overall, using the 2 “toners” has significantly increased my hydration and overall look of my skin. I’m also seeing less sensitivity from my prescription treatments and daily serums. Toning has basically just helped “mesh” all the products together, and I’ve been starting to see significant benefits from everything in my routine! I like to think of toner as the “glue” to your skincare products — it just enhances and elevates your whole skin game!

If you feel like you’re in a skincare “rut”, and you aren’t seeing the benefits you should be from your products, I highly recommend evaluating your use of toners! I just can’t say enough good things about using the 2 products together.

I’m SO curious now:

What are y’alls thoughts on using toners, and what are your favorites? Feel free to share below!

How To Get “Glow-From-Within” Skin!

How To Get “Glow-From-Within” Skin!

Hey Friends!

I think it is safe to say one of the most popular makeup trends at the moment is creating a look of natural “glow” to the skin. While applying a highlighter alone can give a gorgeous glow, it doesn’t necessarily create a skin-deep, full-complexion radiance. I find that adding products in light¬†layers¬†can really enhance the skin and achieve a natural, I-Woke-Up-Like-This Luminosity.

Think of this post as your guide to creating a “no-filter” filter!¬†

All products mentioned are linked below!

Moisturize!

This “step” is obviously not ground-breaking or new, but starting out with a hydrated base is SO key! It is always best to find a moisturizer that is most tailored to your skin type, and it can definitely be a trial-and-error process. For me, the Bobbi Brown Vitamin-Enriched Face Base has literally improved almost every aspect of my skin. It is very rich in texture, yet so lightweight and hydrating! This one is a splurge, but it’s life-changing.

Spritz!

After moisturizer, I love to spritz my whole face with elf’s Illuminating Mist & Set. It creates a such a gorgeous luminosity that acts like a glass-like backlight for the rest of your complexion products. I love that this one is vitamin and green tea-infused, so you’re also giving your skin a dose of good-for-you ingredients.

Liquid Glow!

Before applying foundation/powders, I like to use a small amount of liquid highlighter to the highest point of my cheek and brow bones. This may seem like an unnecessary step, as the addition of foundation may seem to “cancel-out” the glow; however– this helps create a more dimensional luminosity that will reveal itself more and more throughout the day. There are plenty of great liquid highlights out there, but the most important factor to keep in mind is to avoid¬†those with glitter. Overly shimmery highlights can emphasize pores and skin texture. I love BECCA’s Shimmering Skin Perfecter in “Opal” or Benefit’s Dandelion Shy Beam Matte Liquid Highlighter.

The Benefit one is a great choice for more textured skin types. Because it is matte, it won’t emphasize skin unevenness. It really gives such a gorgeous pinky-colored brightness to the complexion. I also love to use this one on my brow bone for an instant lifted effect.

Top of With a Powder Glow!

After applying foundation, concealer, and matte setting powders— it’s time to amp up the glow! I can’t even write this post and try to recommend a $25-$30 highlight. I haven’t found many products that hold a candle to my beloved Pure Nude Highlights from essence cosmetics.¬†The shades¬†“Be My Highlight” and “Sunlighter” just rock my world. Like honestly, I would probably bathe in these if I could. These will¬†not¬†give you that blinding, beaming from outer space metallic effect– the look these give is pure creamy, dreamy natural radiance. Think of these as a very delicate “kiss” of glow.

Seal it In!

Immediately after you apply the powder highlight, give your skin one last good spritz of setting spray. Of course I love the elf one mentioned above, but I also like to finish off things with my favorite scent from Mario Badescu. This helps seal in all that glow and melts all your makeup together for long-lasting radiance.

TIP:¬†If you’re really feeling like a beaming angel, add another layer of powder highlight before the setting spray drys!

I really enjoy having a glow that feels understated yet noticeably healthy. I personally feel most confident when my makeup enhances my features rather than covering them up– especially when it comes to my complexion. A good skin day is the best day!

How do y’all like to glow?? Please share all your thoughts below!

REVIEW: GLOW RECIPE Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer

REVIEW: GLOW RECIPE Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer

Hey everybody!

I’m here today to chat about a moisturizer I’ve been trying out a little over a week now, the Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer from GLOW RECIPE.

I got a little 0.3oz/10mL sample size of this guy from Sephora, I’ve been SO excited to give it a try for months now. I haven’t had the courage to purchase anything from the brand –I was still a little skeptical and nervous to make the investment in another possible skincare disappointment.

Image of my Sample:

Product Specs:

  • Standard size comes in 2oz/60mL bottle and retails for $39.00 USD¬†
  • Mini size is also available as 25mL bottle for $21.00 USD
  • Can be purchased at Sephora or GLOW RECIPE’S official website

The whole GLOW RECIPE brand has taken social media by storm, as their products are beautifully packaged and Instagram-worthy. I’m a huge fan of all things watermelon– I LOVE anything that promises to have a watermelon scent or flavor. You can’t help but notice that this moisturizer has the same exact scent of a watermelon jolly rancher, which I love. For me, the scent isn’t super overpowering and it does dissipate shortly after you apply. However, if you are very sensitive to smells in your skincare this could be a pass for you.

The consistency of this moisturizer is very thin and water-based. It doesn’t have a creamy or rich feeling to it at all — I would almost describe it as a very¬†lightweight gel. Of all the gel/water based moisturizers I’ve tried, I think this one might be the most thin. Calling this product a watermelon “juice” moisturizer is a very accurate name to classify the viscosity.¬† It does have a very light pink-colored hint to it as well.

Images of the Product’s Texture/Consistency:¬†

Per the GLOW RECIPE website, it is suitable for dry, sensitive, normal, and oily/combo skin types. It claims to hydrate, brighten, soften, and smooth the skin.

Some highlighted ingredients:

  • Watermelon Extract
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Antioxidants

My Thoughts:

I’d first like to point out that¬†skin is currently on the dry side due to my prescription retinol use (most of the time my skin is relatively normal).

That being said, I do not feel that this moisturizer provides me with adequate hydration when used alone. Once I get it applied evenly in a thin layer, it ultimately just ends up feeling sticky and I don’t feel as if it is adding much moisturization to my skin. Even when I added more product to try and build it up, it just got more tacky and didn’t seem to fully absorb. Each time I used this moisturizer, I really felt the need to go in with an additional product to feel like my skin was properly hydrated. I did notice a very slight stinging sensation that quickly went away in areas near my eye/temple on the first few uses. So far, it has not caused any new break outs on me.

Unfortunately, this one will be a pass for me to purchase in the full-size– my skin is just too dry at the moment.

  • If you have oily skin this one might be a great, lightweight choice to try out (it is an oil-free formula)
  • For normal skin, I think this would work best in an AM skincare routine (you might need more moisture in your PM routine.).

I don’t think this product is “bad” or a poor choice, it just isn’t a fit for my skin situation at the moment. I have to stress that every person’s experience is unique. If you like this product- I LOVE IT! I think it has some really nice ingredients, Sephora considers GLOW RECIPE to be a “clean” skincare line. I’m still interested in this brand, so I hope to find a product that is better suited for my skin type.

To Summarize, here’s my personal¬†PROS/CONS:

PROS

  • Beautiful packaging
  • I love the watermelon scent
  • Does provide my skin with a radiant glow
  • Oil-free with a “clean” ingredient seal from Sephora

CONS

  • Not enough hydration for dryer skin types –I had to use an additional product
  • I did experience slight stinging/irritation
  • Comes with a high-end price tag ($39.00 USD for 60mL)
  • Dry down is sticky/tacky on me

I’m super curious to hear your thoughts if you’ve tried this one out! Was it a PASS or PURCHASE for you? What else have y’all tried from GLOW RECIPE? Also, if you have dry skin what are your go-to moisturizers?

Please share all your thoughts/suggestions in the comments!!

How I Fix My Dark Circles

How I Fix My Dark Circles

Happy Monday, Y’all!

In honor of my early AM airport drop-off and long work day, I wanted to chat about my current dark circle staples. Thanks to Spring allergies, dehydration, and lack of sleep—-my eyes are looking particularly panda-like.

Me, IRL:

It may seem like using 3-4 separate products is over-kill, but I promise each step serves a specific purpose to achieve the most flawless under eye ever!

Here’s the line-up:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Origins ‚Äď GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream to Brighten and Depuff

I love this eye cream. It has a super smooth consistency, yet feels very lightweight for daytime wear. It doesn‚Äôt feel overly rich or heavy, even when other products are layered with it. It really serves to provide a hydrating “primer” to the area and helps prevent my concealer from looking cake-y or overly heavy by the end of the day. What I especially appreciate about this cream is that it gives you instant gratification—-the brightness is immediate and it doesn‚Äôt take weeks/months to start to see a benefit from it. It has a gorgeous pearl-like sheen that gives the appearance of a well-rested, bright complexion. I just use a small amount (about pea-sized), apply to the back of my hand to warm it up, and then lightly pat it in with a fingertip. Super easy and effective!

Benefit Cosmetics –Boi-ing Brightening Full Coverage Concealer (I have the shade light/medium)

In the featured image for this blog, you’ll see this pictured as “Erase Paste”. This was the old name for this concealer—Benefit Cosmetics re-branded it awhile back, but the formula and effectiveness is the exact same! I accidentally grabbed my older one when I took this photo (another lovely side effect of sleep deprivation!).

**Check out the newest version HERE.

I love this product because it helps to actually correct the darkness. A bright concealer alone will still show darkness coming through on more moderate/severe dark circles. One of my favorite YouTubers described this so well: It’s like having a bruise on your leg and trying to cover it up with sheer, white pantyhose. If you want to take your dark-circle correction to the next level, try a peachy colored (light-medium skintones) or orange colored (medium-deep skintones) product first!

I’ll usually just apply this concentrated in the inner most part of my under eye, and blend it outward with a fingertip or damp beauty sponge. You shouldn’t need more than 1-2 thin layers of this stuff.

Too Faced — Born This Way Super Coverage Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer¬†

In my opinion, this is the most hydrating yet full-coverage concealer I have in my collection (NARS Radiant Creamy is a VERY close second). This is a must-try concealer If you have a dry under-eye area that needs coverage without the cake. There’s plenty of great full-coverage concealers that I also really enjoy, but they tend to dry me out and look overly heavy by the end of the day.

The formula of this concealer is infused with hyaluronic acid and coconut water to add hydration, yet the finish is natural and not dewy or oily-looking. I also really enjoy the huge doe-foot applicator wand. This is the perfect last product to finish off the process by brightening and smoothing out the skin!

*Check this one out HERE

**OPTIONAL last step: Laura Mercier’s Secret Brightening Powder

If you’re a person that LOVES the regular LM Setting Powder, but sometimes struggles with the dryness it can cause — this one is for you!

The Secret Brightening Powder is super unique in texture and finish. I would compare the feel of it to an ultra-fine powder sugar. It’s¬†super light-weight and sits on the skin like a dream. The formula is said to be specially formulated with micronized pigments to smooth and brighten the skin.

Due to the fact that it does have white-colored pigments, I would not recommend applying this heavily all over the face. (They also have an option for more medium-deep skin tones if you’re concerned about it being too light). Occasionally, I will take the lightest amount possible on a large fluffy brush to areas that need a little powder to set or brighten. If you’re having a photo taken with flash photography, I would warn that it can cause some flashback.

That being said, it’s gorgeous for day-to-day use and makes the under-eye skin look absolutely flawless.¬†To really melt the product in my skin for a lasting-effect, I use a very small amount on the tip of a damp beauty sponge and softly press it in right away.

I really hope this process doesn’t seem too overwhelming for y’all! Over time, I’ve changed/added different things to really perfect the final look. I can really incorporate each product without it slowing down my daily makeup routine. This combination is ultra-effective for me and works wonders on transforming my stubborn dark circles!

Does anyone else feel like a mad scientist trying to fix their dark circles?? Please comment below to chat about your products and routine for this. Sharing is caring, right? ūüėČ

Thanks for Reading!

P.S.-Don’t forget to get some rest and hydrate!! Have a great week!¬†
